More than 100 people killed in stampede in India

145 people were killed following a stampede at a remote mountaintop Hindu temple. The stampede started after rumors of a landslide. An estimated 25,000 were on the mountaintop at the time.

RAW FOOTAGE: Four die after tornado hits French towns

A freak tornado ripped through towns in northern France overnight, killing three people and injuring nine as it gutted houses and hurled cars through the air. A fourth person, a man of 76, committed suicide after his house was demolished by the storm.

Ice fall kills 11 on K2

11 climbers have been killed on K2, the world’s second highest mountain. The climbers, from a number of different countries, were killed after an ice fall near K2’s peak. A Pakistani army helicopter began airlifting frost-bitten survivors from the mountain’s slopes.

The number of people infected with HIV increases

A new report says the number of Americans infected by the AIDS virus each year is higher than the government has been estimating. The country had roughly 56,300 new HIV infections in 2006. an increase of about 16,000.

Hurricane Dolly gains strength

Dolly strength over the Gulf of Mexico, and residents along the U.S.-Mexico border are now contending with torrential rain. 1,200 National Guard troops have been placed on alert and a disaster declaration has been issued for 14 low-lying counties. Texas officials said they would not order mandatory evacuations unless Hurricane Dolly reached Category 3, with wind speeds of over 111 mph. Jon Decker reports

But former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright says the hunt must go on for his military commander still on the run. Albright, who played a key role in the formulation of American policy on Kosovo and Bosnia, hailed the arrest of wartime Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic as a positive step but warned it was only half the story.

Thief steals $2,500 worth of gas in Connecticut

Police in Lyme, Connecticut say somebody stole 500 gallons of diesel fuel out of a tank that was recently filled. They have yet to name a suspect.
